Overview: Conduct comprehensive engineering studies of federal and commercial satellite communications systems for the Department of Commerce/National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (DOC/NOAA) office of the National Environmental Satellite Data and Information Systems (NESDIS). The goal of the engineering study is to determine the feasibility of sharing the 1675 – 1680 MHz band between the existing Federal users, consisting of NOAA and a wide range of Federal entities, and commercial carriers operating terrestrial AWS such as Long Term Evolution (LTE) cellular technology. The comprehensive engineering study will provide a range of technical measurements and analysis to enable NOAA to make objective decisions about the ability of NESDIS and NOAA to accommodate spectrum sharing.
